“Communities of practice (CoP) are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly” (Wenger et al., 2002, p.4).
Three key components of communities of practice are:
- Domain: A specific area of expertise or discipline which provides common ground and a common identity.
- Community: A group that builds relationships and creates a sense of belonging based on a common domain and individual perspectives.
- Practice: Shared frameworks, tools, information and stories which provides a baseline of common knowledge and skill.
